Thank you for raising your concerns. This ticket was approved by @gziolo
(another committer)

normal double sign-off process before committing. It was only committed to
trunk and has not been backported into the 7.0 release branch as of now.

It's worth noting that the approach used to add Akismet is the same as the
one used for the other three connectors we already had, using what is
currently possible. And in the future, we could iterate on both Akismet
and the other connectors.
