 Hi there, welcome to WordPress Trac! Thanks for the ticket.

 Could you share the steps to reproduce the issue on a clean install? If
 there was something wrong in that line, I think it would be a more common
 issue, but this appears to be the first report so far, so I wonder if
 there are any other factors in play here, for example a plugin or theme.

 It looks like if the password is not intended to be changed, it should not
 be passed to `wp_update_user()` at all.
