[wp-hackers] styling a plugins widget in a theme

Hi all.

Is there a way to design/modify the output of a plugin displayed in the 
sidebar?

I use a plugin that displays a widget in the sidebar. I didn't like the 
way these contents are displayed, so i modified the plugin. Things i 
don't like with this solution:

1. Every time there's an update for the plugin my changes are overwritten
2. Theme would be the right place because that's where my design is

Is there a way the theme can control the output of the plugin? Do i need 
cooperation from the author of the module for this?
