>>You can direct them to the forums, if they want their folders chmod
777, or files chmod 666.. who there at the forums can do that?<<
I see what you're saying spencer - but I have to agree that *we*
shouldn't be doing it, either. I know how hard it is - because it's an
individual asking for help in something, and you've already helped them
once before - so why not? And usually it's a simple little thing that
can be easily handled.
BUT...
One person can grow into three, and then ten...until next thing you know
you're swamped with "I can't get this to work, what do I do?" questions
- and your inbox has become a support forum where *you* are the only one
who can offer it.
Granted, that might be something you'd like, or that you don't mind.
When I have time for it, I cave and I'll do some stuff I shouldn't be
doing either. They'll ask, I have a free moment and can do it, so I do.
BUT...
Then they email back with this and that and "how do I make a theme?" and
next thing you know I want to track them down and shove the Wordpress
Codex in bodily crevices that don't have eyes. And it's my own damn
fault for caving and going against rules that are already established,
right on the website.
And not only does it hurt *me* by cutting into my free time, but word
gets around about how "awesome" we all are at helping, and then people
start coming over here to ask questions and next thing you know
*everyone's* inbox is full of personal support questions.
So yes, no one at the Forums can change their permissions on files (or
whatever), but there are *many* there that will tell them how to do it
themselves. Which is the point, I think - we just get them started-
the rest is up to them to do it themselves.
Just sayin'. :)
