[wp-pro] wp-pro Digest, Vol 60, Issue 12

Probably best we don't decide who is a pro, but quickly identify those who are fraudulant and boot them from the list. 2 strike rule, if people make broken promises that is just the way it should be, especially if payment was involved. Craiglist boots people, why shouldn't we? This list isn't really supposed to be another eLance, but there is some good commerce here, and the bad apples do ruin the bunch.

How are we going to decide who's a pro? What level of knowledge makes one a pro? For example, although I've been working with WordPress for over three years, I'm always learning new things and there are definitely people out there who know more than me.

What I'm saying is there are always going to be different levels of providers and I think that they all have the right to their place in the marketplace.

Interesting, you have my vote for Black List... should you remove people

out if they are not pro's or professional.

Just a heads up that I entered in an agreement with Hitesh last year to
develop a custom WP plugin for me (found him on this list). After agreeing
on the scope of work and price, I gave him a down payment to begin work.
After several weeks of stalling, he admitted that he was unable to complete
the task, and in fact never delivered a single line of code. He has
admitted fault and indicated he would refund my deposit, but has not done so
        after over a year.

I am happy to provide an email trail if you're interested in the details
for proof. Hitesh is long on reassurances and talk, very short on delivery.
         I would stay far away.

Very similar results. I set him up with a small project to see if I could
outsource some of my small projects. Total FAIL!! Just copied an existing
      plugin and didn't do anything.

I had the same idea when a thread about clients came up on this list last
year. Never transpired because people talked about risk
of unwarranted feedback ( on both ends ).

PS: I think this should be taken off list, maybe someone with a blog can
      post about it :)

Anyone who builds such a database should first and foremost consider making
it a feedback system similar to systems found in eBay or Etsy so that good
comments can be shared. I have had some major fails and some wonderful wins
when it comes to clients found on this forum and all things considered I
would myself rather hire someone with a majority of positive feedback about
similar projects rather than the unknown newbie who simply has 0 negative
feedback yet. A black list system is just Yuk and negative and attracts
      unprofessional venting.

Yes I think transparency is key. I had a lot of bad experiences here,
and a couple of good ones. I have no idea why there is so much worry
about bad feedback. When you do a good job people say it outright. If
you are interested on positive feedback only try Flattr then ;) A
balanced way of sharing feedback is foremost important, especially
when you work long distance like it often happens here. Plus people
have better things to do than just vent for no reason here.
