 I had the same thought, but looking through the
 [https://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/64368#comment:18 linked upstream
 issues], I think the solution is going to be an update to phpmailer which
 will be added to core. I'm removing the close keyword since the commit
 that updates phpmailer be that can be used to close this ticket as
 @desrosj noted.
