 There is [https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/issues/63785 ongoing
 discussion of improvements] (potentially for WordPress 6.9) to this
 feature if you would like to get involved.

 I'm closing this as reported-upstream since the tickets and discussion is
 taking place in the Gutenberg Repo.
