 @johnbillion, It is my understanding that 6.9
 [https://make.wordpress.org/core/2025/04/04/dotorg-core-committers-check-
 in/ will not be released] until at least early 2026. That should take the
 guessing out of this move since by that time 7.2+7.3 will likely be under
 4%. With PHP 7.4 currently at 29.93% (the most popular PHP version of
 WordPress sites as of this point), I can't imagine making PHP 8.0 the
 minimum version for a few years.
