 We will likely need to punt this to 6.8 given the pending release
 candidate and the need for more testing.

 In the meantime, I recommend converting PNG uploads to WebP or AVIF (using
 [https://wordpress.org/plugins/webp-uploads/ this plugin] from the
 Performance Team). These formats are typically much smaller and support
 lossy compression with transparency.
