SVN trunk as tar.gz/.zip packages (was: [wp-testers] some quick questions)

I see. I can even reproduce it with one application, while others open
it just fine. The thing is, I create the archive with GNU tar, and this
is the usual way to create a tar.gz file on a Linux system. I have also
played a bit with the --format switch, but no luck. So unfortunately I
don't know what I can do to fix it. (If anybody has a clue, I'd be happy
to hear about it.)

Maybe somebody with a larger audience wants to set up something similar
so more people can use the dev packages. But of course, you can always
