I agree as well. It's better to have as many translatable strings as  
possible. If a localization team (or individual) prefere the US  
standard, it's just as simple as translating the string to the same as  
the original.

But just as for French the Swedish standard uses other separators for  
hours and minutes than English. The correct Swedish standard is 24- 
hour with HH.MM:SS just as date is in the ISO-standard 8601:1988 (YYYY- 
MM-DD), but also can be written like DD/MM-YY and DD month YYYY.

So as long as all strings are translatable it doesn't really matter  
what the standard strings are.
