Seems to me it's my fault I was downloading the pot file from wrong place :(

I was just following the instructions given at
http://codex.wordpress.org/Translating_WordPress
check the link in sections on translating wp with KBabel and poEdit,
the point "Download the official WordPress POT file"
The link to the "official" pot file points to the pot/trunk directory

You've opened my eyes :)
