The applications you tried are maybe refusing to generate a mo, just 
because the po file you gave is not as valid as it should be. I got some 
  errors:
ro.po:4880: duplicate message definition
ro.po:2210: ...this is the location of the first definition
ro.po:4891: duplicate message definition
ro.po:3295: ...this is the location of the first definition
ro.po:4899: duplicate message definition
ro.po:4303: ...this is the location of the first definition

Also I noticed you are using a  bit old pot file to generate your po. 
Which version of WordPress you were trying to translate?
