Well, according to the xAuth documentation (ht: John Bloch)
"Web applications that are currently using basic authentication can request
xAuth access for a short duration to bulk convert their logins and passwords
for access tokens with the understanding that the existing logins and
passwords will be securely discarded after conversion."
So maybe I can have my cake and eat it too :)
