Not to flog a dead horse (or stubborn mule, you decide) would it not just make it a lot easier to combine wp_terms and wp_term_taxonomy into wp_terms and add a wp_termmeta and eliminate wp_term_relationships and have 1 function to get everything in one table and another for meta?

If query natively supported "term=any" or at least if there was a hook in /wp-includes/query.php (lines 2049 and 2068) that allowed us to target this specifically it might be better; if any of the core team agree I'll add a ticket to trac.
