[wp-hackers] Post/Page "Types"?

If someone's looking for illustration, it seems to me that, prior to 
Twitter burning up the scene, Matt used to use a "Microposts" plugin 
that I also played around with.  If I'm not mistaken, that used a custom 
post taxonomy.
