FWIW, that can be fixed with a plugin. Here's one I put together just
to see how hard it would be.

It uses AJAX and dodgy object prototype replacement to save the dbx
state to usermeta whenever the cookie is updated. Not well-tested but
works for me. (Using 2.0.4.)
