Remember kids:  Just because MySQL offers enough performance to satisfy Yahoo! doesn't mean that it offers enough performance for your blog.   :^P

Seriously, my fiancée regularly consults with Fortune 100 companies, and often speeds up database operations 100X-1,000X just by fixing stupid code.  Typically, the problem is the loose nut above the keyboard rather than the database itself.
