You are quite right Mark. My error. And apologies. Looks like BBEdit  
was responsible for the truncating.
And my .htaccess looks right for 2.0 as well. So I'm good to go.
I'm surprised I hadn't updated permalinks earlier than this....

And if anyone knows an expert on the wp-cache plugin I would be a
