lots of smaller hosts, free hosts, resellers, etc., don't have automated
backups. even some of the more established hosts may make you pay for
backup space or auto-backups. In the case that they do backups at some
point, maybe the top folks do nightlies, some may do weekly, some may do
monthly.
don't trust your data is backed up by a third-party, unless you are
>explicitly< paying them for nightly backups of your webserver and dbserver
files... And even then, catastrophic things happen. Backups done to a
secondary server can be botched. Viruses/trojans can wipe machines. etc.

Just out of curiosity where are all these people hosted that don't get
nightly backups by their host anyway? Although redundancy is always a
good thing wouldn't it have to be rare for the host provided backup to
fail?
