Just to follow up on my previous comments regarding link promoting in the
form of help..
Here's an example.

Absolutely no user activity other then that to promote his solution.. I
wanted to offer a good clear example, and spotted this guy today.
Opinions?

Hi Michael (and all),
I do not wish to stir trouble regarding users posting links, and I don't
wish to hinder help in the forums, after all it's tough enough on those that
do try to devote their time in helping others. Of course the thread above is
a clear example of me doing the opposite (lucky it didn't get nasty), but as
I said there in the thread, forget it, I'll get over it..
My point was simply this..
There seems to be a growing trend (perhaps I'm imaging that though) of users
posting links to their sites only to give more vague and inferior solutions
to questions that are well documented in the Codex (I'd wager they may even
be aware of this). Not always, granted there are some very friendly and
helpful users that do offer valid and friendly help (I try to be one when I
can).
I also see this with promoting particular plugins or solutions, authors
digging up multiple threads just so they can pimp their solution to a given
problem. This would be great if they were filling a niche (something noone
else has done and people have asked for), heck I've posted a couple of
threads like that myself, but I've seen posts dug up for common (well
documented problems) numerous times simply so the user can link to his/her
own site promoting their given method to X.
I think for me, there seems to be this margin of flexibility surrounding
posting of links depending on the nature and reasoning of the link posted.
If users can post links to their sites every time they offer a fix to a
problem (even if it's well documented already) then I can see this issue
growing exponentially as other users catch on and realise they can
circumvent link posting rules and advertise, just as long as they do it in
the form of help.
By all means if anyone thinks I'm just a picky old fool, then point it out,
we're all adults here and I won't take it personally.
Rgds,
t31os
Mark (if you prefer).

A recent thread in the Forums [1] raises the question, "To what extent
should we allow volunteers to place links to their site when answering
questions in the Forum?"
What's the proper policy?
