A long time ago I also asked a similar question because I was (and am) as
old-school as you are - or older... :)

We never really came to an agreement. So, no, I don't think we have a
policy.

I just disregard them. Although I did delete URIs from posts on requests.

Is this the proverbial "grey area"?

On the other hand, if we start jumping in on every request then we could end
up in a situation when I could ask to delete a post of mine made 3 years ago
because I was ignorant at that time and gave a wrong advice... and now I am
afraid somebody could find it and that would hurt my image as a WP "expert".
OK, this is a bullshit example but you got the idea :)
