So we heard a lot by now on the `backtick` position on American 
keyboards, thanks guys!

On my just a bit Swedish keyboard, the backtick is equivalent to grave 
accent <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grave_accent> ( ` ) as opposed to 
acute accent ( /´/ ) both diacritic markers, used in many European and 
Latin American languages, like French and Portuguese.
On my keyboard both markers are on the same key to the far right in the 
upper key row, next to the back space key.
It talks a lot for a switch to <code> or [code].

To make the backtick savvy happy ( spence, I'm talking to you ;), why 
not keep `` as a shorthand for <code> ?
I do agree it will take a while for newcomers to find that ( is that a 
quotation mark? ) ` on their keyboards.
