[wp-docs] Filling Holes in the Codex

The amount of work done on the Codex in the past few months is amazing.
But there is still a lot of work to do.

In the WordPress Meetup yesterday, a tentative decision was made to
generate a downloadable PDF file of the entire Codex on a regular
schedule during the year. This would provide a single file document of
the Codex ready for people to download and use, to print out at their
leisure offline.

The details on making that happen are being investigated but we need to
prepare for this to happen by making the Codex be the best online manual
for WordPress users and that starts with an attempt to provide complete
information.

We have some holes in the documentation that need filling. Here are some
from the Codex:Task things to do list, but what other gaps do you all
see that need to be filled?

Designing Your WordPress Calendar
Using the Archives Tag
Auto-Approving Administrator Comments
Permalinks Explored More - or more information on Permalinks
Power Search on Your Site
Managing Blogrolls - In addition to Links Manager - a Lesson on Blogrolls
Uploading files through WordPress
Comments Layout and Design
Working With Includes
Create Custom Template Files
Using if_single and other examples of common IFs
Creating a Site Map
Checking Server Logs - how to track down problems in WordPress through

categories better

http://codex.wordpress.org/Codex:Tasks#Foldable_Page_Lists
http://codex.wordpress.org/Codex:Tasks#Integrating_Feeds_Into_WordPress
http://codex.wordpress.org/Codex:Tasks#Foreign_Language_Characters -
while related to WordPress in Your Language - we need this as a very
specfic how to article for those using English and a second language or
occassional use of non-english characters in WordPress posts

These need to be done (check the list to see if someone has already
signed up and if they have, contact them and find out the status and if
they need help). But what else needs to be done to help the WordPress user?

Think about how you first setup WordPress and started using it. I took
notes while setting up my wordpress.com site to remember what I did the
first time that I wouldn't do again, just to remember. Go through the
process of how you use WordPress that others might want to know. Did you
do something special with the loop and includes? What are the elements
you see on many websites that might need some explaining for WordPress
users?

So what is missing?

Lorelle
