 Hi @espellcaste

 I agree with you. Moreover I think bringing the BP REST API development
 into Core would improve its usage by all BuddyPress contributors, and
 would probably be more straightforward for contributors to report issues.

 I think we should probably take this opportunity to build a "v2" to fix
 #8200. Version 1 could be deprecated / included into BP Classic to provide
 backwards compatibility if needed.

 I'm totally in favor of this move.
