 Rough first pass pushed up, works more or less but not checked in too much
 detail, just proof of concept.

 I see many attendant problems with doing this though at various levels
 here and on Nouveau.

 I think updating this class though to offer the updated param options even
 if not directly utilized ought to be a good thing!
