Comment:

 We sync display name because it is needed by BuddyPress throughout the
 interface: in the activity stream, in notification emails, etc etc etc.
 The same cannot be said for any other of the values that WP natively
 collects. Even first name and last name are outliers, because they're not
 going to be useful in the same ways across languages. And the additional
 fields - things like ICQ - are things that many/most BP communities do not
 need/want as public profile fields.

 It's possible to force any pair of fields to be synced in a plugin, and in
 the absence of a counterargument, I think that's good enough.
