Comment:

 Try the search on testbp.org.

 There's a search box in the top-right corner of the page.  Select "Pages"
 from the dropdown menu and search.

 Is that what you mean?  It works for me.

 About "the_excerpt", you'll need to create a plugin by hooking into the
 filters available in /buddypress/bp-blogs/bp-blogs-activity.php.  It might
 be good for BP to use the_excerpt by default, but a new enhancement ticket
 should be created for that.
