 hi Ezd
 I think, there is a confusion between username and display name in your
 case.
 In wordpress/buddypress you can not change your username(the one you use
 to login), what you have changed is the display name.

 So, what ever you change your display name to, you will be always required
 to login using your original username and it is normal.

 yes, I agree with you that there should be no inconsistency on the display
 name if you changed it.
 Hope someone submits a patch here.
