 Yes, I was using the 2.8.2 tag. I set up a new site using 2.8.2 trunk
 (pulled from svn this morning - 7/30/09). Now the infinite redirect
 doesn't happen, but the user still can't login to the main site. Logging
 in to the main site, the user gets this error:

 You don’t have permission to view this blog. Please contact the system
 administrator.

 With Donncha's change and my change combined, the user (logging in at the
 main blog) is correctly redirected to their own blog.
