There is little advantage of this over for a tester over installing
the tar ball.

Not cheap in terms of one more thing for someone to manual do.

You get to choose when you do an 'svn up' ;-)

Probably noting the svn revision number on this list when we cut a
beta or release candidate would be sufficient.
