I'll probably need to think about taking that into consideration... :)

If I only used categories as tags, a flat structure would probably be
best.  But already early on I used them also for combining some of the
tags into a single "feed" through a hierarchy.

Most of the time I use "Manage Categories" to place a newly created
category in its correct place in the hierarchy.  If this could be
done when creating the category, that would be great.  Although, one
would have to be careful with typing -- or maybe "missing" parent
categories should not be automatically created (to avoid unwanted
categories from typos).

Sometimes I rename a category (this is not just fixing typos).

I practically never delete a category.

I also don't create new categories that often, because I seem to have
a mental problem with having the categories in the wrong place...
This might be another reason to just think of them as tags, and start
using them much more.
