Ya know... I had to reread gazouteast's issue a few times to get to the core
of it and it finally hit me: this has been seen before.

A simpler example: You have a blog at domain.com/blog and another app at
domain.com/otherapp. You decide to install WP in the root as well at
domain.com.

Now, whenever you try to access /otherapp or /blog you get a 404 from
domain.com's install of WP.

What I don't have is the time to search the forums to find past experiences
-- or the time/inclination to search gazouteast's previous threads to see if
I'm just rehashing what someone else has already said.

I think at one point it was described as "greedy subdirectories" or some
such if that raises any lightbulbs.
