Agreed - maybe this would be a perfect reason for people to use TinyURLs -
and if given as an example, people would be less afraid to click on them (I
know that sometimes I am!) - given that the person says in the post, "I'm
putting this in a TinyURL to avoid spidering..."

permanently, visible in forum search results and spidered by Google, etc.
So, if you're a developer/designer you might consider using something other
than a direct link to a client's site for privacy reasons.
