[wp-forums] Lazy language / Jargon

Quite. If the question is phrased in abbreviations that sometimes don't make
sense even to speakers of other varieties of English[1], then it might be a
good idea to phrase any answers in such a way as to restate the question,
making it clearer for anyone who comes along later.

But then, I use correct spelling and punctuation when sending text messages
from my mobile phone :-)

[1] I have to shift mental gears for some of them...

Subject: [wp-forums] Lazy language / Jargon

Had an email this morning from someone who has been posting to the
forums for a while now. They point out - quite rightly I think - that as
an international forum, we need to stop using things like r u w. lol w/o
and other abbreviations that will make no sense to someone who is not an
english speaker or who does not use chat. (Not that we as regulars do,
but if the person asking the question uses junk language, then the
answer is wasted on the reader).
(This drives me nuts too. There is one poster who regularly abbreviates
stupidly yet presents as an intelligent person.....)

Additionally, there is the problem of people using jargon. I see this as
less of a problem as it is usually code related and jargon is a relative
term.

So how to tackle ?

P.
