Comment:

 That's a known issue and affects WordPress too. You'll have to add some
 sort of locking to your cron job if it's really important that it doesn't
 run so often. I had to do something like that for my Tweet Tweet plugin.

 Sorry, won't be fixed in MU as it has to be fixed in WordPress.
