 Is there a reason MU looks at the cat_id in the wp_sitecategories table
 for tags, link categories and custom taxonomies instead of the term_id in
 the wp_x_terms table?

 The category taxonomy is the only taxonomy that correctly looks for the
 term_id from the wp_x_terms table.
