 I had this happen twice now on WPMU 2.7.

 The category widget breaks if options changed and when upgrading from
 2.6.x.  Category widget shows below error on public site and widget admin
 side:

 Catchable fatal error: Object of class WP_Error could not be converted to
 string in /mnt/target03/359049/www.domain.com/web/content/wp-
 includes/classes.php on line 1315
 }}}

 Quick fix is to delete the widget_categories entry in the blogs options
 table.  I wrote up the issue in more detail here:
