 Unfortunately your install is unusual. Most people install MU in the
 directory where it will be served from. (in / in your case)

 That code has been in there since [1168] and is the expected behaviour.
 Removing the code isn't an option. Perhaps a checked on checkbox "Update
 siteurl and home" next to the domain textbox will suffice.
