 That's for the WordPress.org stats so we'll be able to publish something
 like "X blogs use WordPress MU" on the site or produce a stats page.

 In the future it might help us warn very large sites that they need to
 upgrade ASAP if they're using a particularly old version of the software,
 but that's just me guessing.

 You can mangle your site's url using the "currentsite_on_version_check"
 filter if it worries you.
