 I wasn't sure whether to submit this to WP or WPMU trac since I knew it
 was part of the shared code.  I went with WPMU since it was where the
 issue was specifically occurring for me.  If I need to move this to WP
 trac, just let me know.

 The reason we have 14000+ authors on one blog is because its a buddypress
 site where users can submit recipes.  So we're giving all users author
 privileges on the blog working as the recipe database so all users can
 submit their own posts.
