 CAPTCHAs are out, mainly for usability reasons. There's also the wp-
 hashcash plugin (http://ocaoimh.ie/2008/07/10/anti-spam-blog-plugin-for-
 wordpress-mu/) but I don't want to see that in trunk either.

 Whatever does go in *has* to be easy to maintain. If it depends on an
 external service it could be a nightmare to support, if it depends on
 Javascript it'll generate lots of support queries.

 What I'd like to see:
   * Signup stats. Daily breakdown of new signups by IP, email, username.
 gmail + wildcard email usage.
   * Based on the stats above, an auto flagging system to shut down blogs
 of users who abuse the system. This is hard. Users will find out what
 those limits are and will act accordingly. You'll also catch teachers who
 are registering blogs for their classes.

 Original ideas by coolkarthik88 are really good too. I especially like the
 moderation queue.
