 This seems like a rather odd case.  You're preventing HTTP access to the
 XML-RPC end point via htpasswd, probably requiring HTTP basic auth.  As
 the XML-RPC methods include inline authentication (username/password are
 part of the method calls) I think you'll find that XML-RPC clients will
 fail as well.
