 Found this mysql error in apache error logs just after successful install
 of wpmu:

 WordPress database error Unknown column 'blog_public' in
  'field list' for query UPDATE wp_blogs SET blog_public = '1',
 last_updated = NO
 W() WHERE blog_id = '1' made by update_blog_status, referer:
 http://csunix1.lvc.
 edu/wordpress/index.php

 http://csunix1.lvc.edu/wordpress is the URL of my wpmu install.

 wp_blogs table has a 'public' field, but no wp_public field.

 When I tried to ceate a new user, I got an HTTP 500 Internal Server Error,
 and maybe this is why?

 Running apache 2.0, php 4.3.9, mysql 4.1.20
