 Also, this script on my site points out the problem:
 http://holisticnetworking.net/testing_wpdb.php

 The values in $wpdb are not being propery switched when switch_to_blog()
 is being called.  I think this may also account for my cookie problem, as
 the cookie path is not being set to the new subdirectory for the new blog.
