 This is for the recent patch [1372].

 Unfortunately I have seen some instances that cause problems with
 alphanumeric only user names.

 I actually have one site that decided on "firstname.lastname" as a user
 name convention. I have seen a site that decided on "e-mail" as user name.
 I also find that dash and underscore helps user name readability for some
 users.

 I know things like e-mail could be considered a security risk since it
 produces a publicly known attack vector, but hey so does the initial
 "admin" user.
