 I would have to agree that the second option would be easier to handle,
 and would also cover cases where the blog was created by the site admin
 for someone else.

 With being able to specify who the posts will be credited to, it would
 make it a little easier. Agree that it should be just to one user though,
 as it could get out of hand with a lot of posts to sort though.
