Comment:

 I have attached a patch that adds:

 - a filter so $message can be filtered before being displayed.

 - an action so the behaviour of the graceful_fail() function can be
 overridden or modified.

 These will allow a simple mu-plugin to customise the graceful_fail()
 function without having to define a completely new function.
