 I disagree that these changes require a plugin.  If you look at the
 regular wordpress code, nothing there is hardcoded to http - because there
 is no need.  Asking them to implement my suggested changes does not make
 any sense, as it is only a problem specific to MU.  It is clear that the
 hardcoding to http is a MU specific change, so I guess im a little
 confused as to why you decided to back the changes out since they do not
 impose any functional changes on the existing wpmu source..

 I did look at that page prior to making my suggestion here, the problem
 this everything on that page is again - that there is nothing hardcoded to
 http:// in regular wordpress, that is only introduced in wpmu.
