 I've been working at installing WPMU for our needs, and came across a
 snag: usernames and blognames in WPMU do not allow underscores, only
 alpha-numeric characters.  In fact, there is an explicit call to restrict
 underscores in user and blog names (in {{{wpmu_validate_user_signup}}} and
 {{{wpmu_validate_blog_signup}}}).

 Underscores in names are valid according to traditional WP, so I must ask
 - why the explicit denial for underscores? If there is a valid reason
 (security or otherwise), then this ticket can be discounted.  Otherwise,
 I'm curious as to why WPMU has such restrictive user name requirements,
 and if it's possible to expand the allowable characters.
